Edge Tips Glossary
Understand every metric in your picks
StatsEdge surfaces model edges, sharp action, and market data. This glossary explains what each term means and how to use it when placing bets.
Bet Tagging System
Every pick displays 3 intelligence tags (no time-based labels):
- Primary Edge — Why it's a good bet: HIGH EDGE, MARKET MISPRICE, SHARP ACTION, STEAM MOVE, VALUE WINDOW, LINE LAG
- Timing — When to act: ACT NOW, CLOSING FAST, PEAK VALUE, EARLY EDGE, LAST LOOK, LINE MOVING
- Confidence — How strong: A+ PLAY, ELITE SIGNAL, TOP 5% EDGE, MODEL FAVORITE, HIGH CONFIDENCE, LOW RISK PROFILE
- AI Tags (optional) — AI VERIFIED, MODEL ALIGNED, MULTI-SIGNAL CONFIRMATION, CONSENSUS EDGE
Side
What to bet on (e.g., home -3.5, away +7, over 220.5, under 238). The line is the spread or total; the odds tell you the payout.
home -3.5 @ -110 means bet the home team to cover -3.5 points at -110 odds.
Edge %
Our model's estimated advantage vs. the sportsbook's line. +4% or higher typically indicates strong value. Negative edge = book has the better price.
Edge 8.2% means we believe the true probability is about 8% better than the implied odds.
Conf (Confidence)
How sure the model is about this pick (0–100%). Higher confidence = more conviction in the edge. Combines historical fit, sample size, and situational factors.
Conf 84% means the model is highly confident in this edge signal.
Lean
Where professional (sharp) bettors are placing money. Sharp = line moved toward value; Public = heavy public action; Neutral = no clear signal.
Sharp lean on home = professional action agrees with our model.
Mkt (Market probability)
The probability implied by the sportsbook odds. We compare our model's probability to this to find edge.
Mkt 52% means the book implies 52% chance; if our model says 58%, we have edge.
Portfolio EV
Sum of expected value across your open picks, in units. Positive = you're expected to profit over the long run if edges hold.
Portfolio EV +1.2u means your open picks expect about 1.2 units of profit.
CLV (Closing Line Value)
Did you beat the closing number? Positive CLV means you got a better price than the final line — a key sharpness indicator.
You bet home -3 @ -110; closing was home -4.5 → positive CLV.
